This Tuesday night (08), Tianjin Quanjin hosted Guangzhou Evergrande, in the CFA Champions League round of 16. The score was 0-0, but, in the first encounter with the former coach Fabio Cannavaro, Tianjin, now headed by Paulo Sousa, showed its strength in the field.
Since the beginning, the hosts made an even match. In second half, they had two chances to open the scoreboard: in the 70th minute, Anthony Modeste lost an opportunity, kicking the ball out. Ten minutes later, Alexandre Pato made a good move, but was stopped by the goalkeeper. Modeste found the ball again, but, one more time, lost the chance.
In the overview of the match, Paulo Sousa’s squad had less ball possession – only 38%. Despite that, the team was more efficient in the field: attempted to goal seven times and had four corner kicks. This was the first time that a match between Tianjin and Evergrande ended in a tie.
Tianjin Quanjian and Guangzhou Evergrande meet each other again in the next Tuesday (15), in Tianhe Stadium. The match will decide which team qualifies to the next round of AFC Champions League.
